(Burnt) Swedish Cinnamon Rolls

Black and white so you can't tell just how burnt they are on top!
You'd be a fool to think I never have any kitchen mishaps, and this happens to be one of them. Unfortunately when I made these Swedish Cinnamon Buns this morning, hoping for a tasty breakfast, I tried to do too many things at once and probably forgot how ferocious my oven can be, so unfortunately the poor things got rather singed on top.

I made these for the Sunvil Supper Club. Sunvil are a tour operator, but they also have a supper club which visits the theme of a different country every month. October's Sunvil Supper Club theme was Sweden, so the cinnamon bun was chosen as the bake of choice. These buns seem to have spread in popularity, featuring frequently in British, Belgian and even American bakeries (tarted up here and there with icing or raisins), and are apparently huge in their country of origin - there is even a day devoted to them!

I can't remember whether I've had a cinnamon bun before, so I'm not sure how these were supposed to turn out. I'm not sure they were supposed to have the crispy exterior (even on the non-burnt parts) that mine have, though the inside is quite like a sweet, cinnamon-flavoured bread. I think I would prefer if they were a little softer on the outside and maybe a bit sweeter on the inside, so I might tinker with the recipe (and watch my oven like a hawk) and make them again when I have more time (which won't be until February at this rate).

If you would like to try making these yourself, the recipe can be found here.

I think I'm going to make something easy at the weekend - maybe a loaf cake. Check back on Sunday to see what I come up with.

As always, the views on this site are my own.
